      Colonial Bussin'

The ELSS solid gold medallion is presented to the Royal Burgh Standard Bearer (RBSB) at the Colonial Bussin’ in the Victoria Halls, on the Wednesday night of the Common Riding Week.

The first ELSS medallion was presented to Standard Bearer R Stroh by William Anderson in 1912. We have no record as to where this presentation took place.

However, it is recorded in the minute book in 1927:

Tuesday 5th April 1927 - Presentation of the medallion

It was decided to organise as party to attend the Colonial Society’s meeting on the ‘nicht afore the morn’ at which the president was to present the medallion to the Royal Burgh Standard Bearer.

We believe that the medallion was presented at the Colonial Society meeting in 1912 and annually through to 1927 when the Society was formalised and minutes were kept.

In 1929 the ELSS committee decided to present medallions to all those RBSB who were still alive. These medallions were presented at the Ex Standard Bearers Dances in ___

The programme for the Colonial Bussin’ always highlights the presentation of the ELSS Medallion. We are fortunate to have a copy of the 1935 Bussin’ programme. The Silver Jubilee of the Colonial Society and the Bussin’ was held in the Picture House.
