We are delighted that the Golf Days have become a key milestone in our calendar and help to retain and strengthen our links with Selkirk and exiled Souters in and around Edinburgh.
In introducing you to this Golf Day section of our website, we must take you back to 1928 and the Minutes of the first AGM when President Gibson spoke of the possibility of out-door recreation becoming part of the Society’s social programme.

Our Inaugural Golf Day 2022
Some ‘ere many moons’ arrived in 2022 when we held our first ever out-door event. We didn’t descend on the old burgh, or knock the blazes out the hill, instead we were delighted to welcome a total of 21 Souter golfers who join 6 Edinburgh Souter golfers at Prestonfield Club on Friday 13th October
The golfers enjoyed playing in perfect golfing conditions on a course which was in great condition.
The golf was followed by a very nice meal served by Michelle and her team at PGC.
May Stark President presented the prizes.

We were blessed with sunshine and blue skies, (though a tad chilly first thing) for our 3rd Annual Golf Day at Prestonfield Golf Club (PGC). The course was in great condition.
May Stark, ELSS President was delighted to welcome 45 golfers from Selkirk, Lauder, Berwick Upon Tweed, Dunbar, Edinburgh and the Lothians. It was great to have ELSS Honorary President Provost Pow join us and play in the Hammermen Hindrance Team. Our other Honorary Vice President George Thomson, was one of the Auld Swingers.
The 15 team names were very imaginative. All apart from the President's team!
We had the Slice Girls, Chirpy Chippers, Auld Selkirk Swingers, Hairless, Hellraiser and Hinderance Hammermen, and Hail Smiling Golfers to mention a few.
'The Three Bletherin' team of Malcolm Douglas, Elspeth Douglas and Graham Henderson won The Presidents Prize for best team name.
The golfing conditions were perfect though this was not reflected in all the scores! 'One day is a diamond, one day is a stone!'
The Best Individual Stableford Score Prize was won by Provost Pow with 38 Stableford points. Provost Pow won a Four Ball at Prestonfield Golf Club, which we sure he will enjoy.
The Second Best Individual Stable Score was won by Findlay Wheelans with 35 Stableford points. (Best Inward 3) Findlay won a £50 Voucher for the PGC Professional Shop

Golf Day 2025
Royal Burgh Standard Bearer Darren Knox Rounded off a memorable summer by being both a part of the winning team and taken the individual prize at the annual Edinburgh and Lothian Souters Golf Day which was held on Friday 3rd October at Prestonfield Golf Club.
The arrival off storm Amy while the players went out on the course ensured exceptionally difficult playing conditions but the ‘Parverts’ team of Matthew Brass, Liam Cassidy and Standard bearer Knox tamed the conditions on the course to take the ELSS Quaich.

Our president Alan Elliott made the presentations to the damp but happy winning team.
Darren's excellent individual score or 42 points comfortably won first prize in the individual competition with the 2 ‘Auld Shakers’ Bill Walton and Ronnie Douglas second and third respectively.
Honorary Vice President George Thomson gave the vote of thanks.
